Horizon of Hope Update

February 28th, 2012
The moment has arrived. We have been waiting for quite a few months now for a company from Timisoara to come and drill a deep water well. As you can see in the pictures, the weather is not yet the best for working with water. However, the drilling crew arrived last night and after a few last minute obstacles (we found out only a few hours in advance that we need an excavator and 6000 l of water per day for the drilling process) they began their work. They worked for half a day and they reached 24 meters (almost 79 feet) and they still did not reach a good layer of water. Tomorrow they will continue their work and drill until they will hit the gravel layers where they say there should be clean drinkable water. Also see this drilling:
The high depth water well is completed. There were moments when the drill hit rocks and they had to go slow and moments when they were drilling through sand. After 138 feet of drilling we now have a debit of 10 cubic meters of water per hour. It is more than what we need. Thank you God for your free resources.

Horizon of Hope Update
February 2, 2012

December 27th, 2011
I believe I should start by wishing you all “Happy Holidays”. I hope you are enjoying the Holidays with friends and family remembering that the main reason of joy is the birth of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
It is exciting to share with you a few new pictures which show the progress at the HOH youth center. In the past few weeks the electricity company gave us the approval to connect our building to the main electrical system. The price to connect was less than half compared with the first estimate we received about 2 years ago. If in the beginning the electrical company wanted to upgrade their system on our expense, they realized that we will not accept such terms and did the upgrade on their own expense. This way the connection price was reasonable and we are now connected.

Last week we were glad to host a team of friends from California who partnered with other volunteers from Fagaras and worked inside the HOH building. We were able to dig through the bricks and make the channels for the electrical wiring. Our goal was to have at least 4 or 5 rooms ready. The volunteers exceeded any expectations and almost finished the first floor and a good part of the second floor. I will let you enjoy the photos and see the progress that was made.

Horizon of Hope Update
December 8, 2011

We are so thankful to announce that the roof for the HOH center has been completed. The windows and doors have also been installed. Two very important steps have been completed and this has been such an encouragement to us. The building is almost sealed for the winter.

In other news, we have our first person living in the HOH center. His name is Florin and he is 27 years old. Florin grew up in an orphanage, and although he has some family in Fagars, he did not have a place to stay and was sleeping in a field. God sent him to Bethany Baptist Church where he met Petry. He is now living in one small room in the center and he holds the official title as “Guard.”

Horizon of Hope Update
December 1, 2011

Greetings to All Nations Church,
Progress has been good. The roof is now on and the windows installed. We are still battling with the authorities to get the utilities connected (gas, water and electricity) be. However, in November, we will be working on insulating the attic. Our next move is to start with the pipe work and electrical wiring. This will probably be done in the spring as soon as the snow thaws.

We are now working on the logistics of having several work teams come next year.We expect to plaster the outside of the building, then start on the inside hoping to install the Romanian director as soon as possible to start the training of at least a few young people.

This past month we have been ministering in the villages. We are encouraged by the improvement in attitude of the gypsy congregation in Rucar. We held a Marriage Enrichment seminar at Casa Harului camp and a Parenting seminar in Belfast at the invitation of a church there. Included is a picture of Fagaras harvest Festival. Please pray for Petry as he struggles with the bureaucracy, for our Director Vasile, for the organisation needed to accommodate, feed, oversee and arrange work for visiting teams plus the necessary finance to keep the work rolling.

Thank you for your prayer.
Love and blessings,
John and Pauline

Operation Christmas Child 2011

A Project of Samaritan’s Purse

JOIN US!
WHAT IS THE MISSION OF OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD?
The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Each year, individuals, churches, and community groups worldwide fill shoeboxes (or small plastic containers) with gifts for children in war-torn or poverty-stricken countries. The boxes are transported to Samaritan’s Purse locations where a book about Jesus (in the child’s native language) is added, before being shipped to the child’s country. Local churches then distribute the boxes to area children in need.
BEYOND THE BOX: The Operation Christmas Child Discipleship Program
The Operation Christmas Child ministry extends far beyond a gift-filled shoe box. A primary goal of the project is to offer children the opportunity to participate in the Operation Christmas Child Discipleship Program, and to give every graduate a New Testament in their local language. In 2009-2010, an estimated 1.9 million children had the opportunity to participate in the program, with an estimated 1.2 million of these boys and girls completing the series of Bible lessons. These discipleship materials are used by local churches as effective resources to show children how to come into relationship with God, to explore His Word, and to encourage children to grow in their faith.
MISSION STATEMENT
Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ.
The organization serves the Church worldwide to promote the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ.
How You Can Help:
1. Donate your empty shoeboxes, wrapping paper, and/or tape
2. Shop for a specific age and/or gender and bring gifts to be put in shoeboxes
3. Help assemble shoeboxes and wrap them with gift wrap (a pair of scissors would be a good thing to bring!)
4. Donate money to cover shipping costs (which is 6 € per box)
P.S. They say that the kids enjoy having a picture and note from the sender. We will write notes with the kids in Sunday school that day. You are welcome to bring a photo.
